To film with drones (also known as Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)) you will need to be aware of the application process and permissions required.

When you fly a drone in the UK you are now subject to different rules based on the weight of the aircraft that you wish to fly. These are split into categories for each class. You must comply with the regulations based on the category that your operation falls within.

The responsibility lies with you as the operator or pilot to seek the official guidance from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), to ensure that you are operating legally within the UK.

Filming in England provide Drone Guidance for Productions with an overview of the most important things to know when planning to film with drones, including a step-by-step checklist to help ensure safety and best practice when flying in the Open Category.
